EMILIO SCANAVINO (Genoa, 1922 – Milan, 1986) was one of the leading figures of post-war Italian art. After his early figurative works, his artistic research gradually moved towards Art Informel and an increasingly sign-based language. His profoundly existential poetics explores anxiety, conflict, and the mystery of the inner self through matter, signs, and recurring forms. The knot and the tangle become symbols of a complex and unstable reality, suspended between order and chaos.
