ERICAILCANE
A cura di Irina Zucca Alessandrelli

Ericailcane’s exhibition, curated by Irina Zucca Alessandrelli, traces the development of his drawing practice from its beginnings to the present day, following the evolution of a line that originates and develops on paper with an abundance of detail before moving onto the large-scale surfaces of buildings and urban walls.
Organized as part of the sixth edition of Milano Drawing Week, the exhibition explores the work on paper of an artist whose career has developed along a parallel and unconventional path, outside the more established circuits of the art world. Drawing thus emerges as fundamental to a wide range of artistic practices, including those of artists working in mural art.
The choice of the Cittadella as the venue for this exhibition dedicated to Ericailcane is motivated both by the identity of the site—which, thanks to commissions by Francesco Martelli, has always distinguished itself through its attention to urban culture and the graphic work of street artists—and by the nature of the exhibition itself. The show draws on his private archive of sketches and drawings to trace the development of his style over the decades.

ERICAILCANE, the pseudonym of Leonardo Canetti (Belluno, 1980), is a street artist and draughtsman who studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna. Active since the early 2000s, he became known through graffiti and large-scale murals, often created in collaboration with Blu. His artistic language combines almost scientific rigor with imagination: real and fantastical animals, depicted with human attitudes and clothing, become the protagonists of uncanny scenes addressing social, political, and ecological issues. This same artistic research extends across drawings, artist’s books, videos, and installations, bringing his visionary universe to numerous places around the world.
