Thomas Berra answers questions from
Irina Zucca Alessandrelli, curator of Collezione Ramo
What does drawing mean to you?
Drawing is the horizon of the sea; it is freedom and freshness. It is a dive into the future.
Drawing is the fresh air of June, when the night senses the arrival of summer.
What materials, techniques, and creative processes do you use when working on paper?
Pencil, charcoal, fountain pen, ink, pastels—in short, anything that happens to be at hand.
Why did you choose this work from Collezione Ramo?
Because Licini represents, at the same time, both the joy and the drama of the painterly gesture.
What value does dialogue with the Masters of the 20th century have for you?
Absolute.
THOMAS BERRA (Desio, 1986) develops his research from a vegetal and dreamlike universe. Wandering plants become the protagonists of imaginary herbaria, while his landscapes are populated with evanescent, fairy-tale figures suspended between dream and reality. Moving away from detailed naturalistic depiction, his drawing is characterized by quick and spontaneous gestures, large areas of vibrant color, and repeated forms that structure the visual composition.
