Piero Manzoni (Collezione Ramo)

Tom Friedman risponde alle domande di
Irina Zucca Alessandrelli, curatrice della Collezione Ramo

What does drawing mean to you?
Drawing tends to be, a more immediate method for making art, done on paper, framed, flatter, and less expensive.

What techniques and creative processes do you use when working on paper?
I use a variety of processes ranging from actual mark making and rendering methods to just using the folding, wrinkling, and tearing of the paper.

Why did you choose this work from the Ramo Collection?
Piero Manzoni’s work was a huge influence to me. He approaches art always asking the question, what is art and why do we do it? I love how this drawing captures the role and identity of the artist as a possible convict. A criminal for thinking outside the box.

What value does the dialogue with modern drawing have for you?
Most art emerges from drawings which the artist uses to work through their ideas. Modernism was a time of pure invention. Everything done now can be traced back to Modernism and most likely modern drawing.

TOM FRIEDMAN (Saint Louis, Missouri, 1965) - Vive e lavora a Greenfield, Massachusetts.
